WHAT WE BELIEVE

1. We believe in God the Father Almighty, who made everything, loves us and wants us to know and love Him. He gave people freedom to choose; the world is a mess because of their abuse of this freedom.

2. We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. He was born into a poor family, worked as a carpenter, taught about God our Father’s kingdom, healing and befriending all He met. He was betrayed by a friend, crucified by His enemies. When nailed to a cross, He forgave them. He still forgives those who turn to Him. God raised Him from the dead on Easter Day. Jesus is the heart of our faith, not just a figure from the past, but a living presence meeting us in prayer and worship.

3. We believe in the Holy Spirit, sent by God as our helper and guide. The Bible is God’s inspired word and the Holy Spirit enables us to understand it.

4. We believe in the power of prayer. We seek to practise this both individually and together.

5. We believe that the church is the family of God, and try to live as Jesus taught us in peace and harmony with all, enjoying the support of other Christians.

Members of our chapel were invited to think what they would say to a stranger who asked them "What do you believe?" The above is compiled from the replies we received.

We find verses from the Bible such as the following are particularly telling;

Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me".

(Matthew 11. verse 28. NIV)

God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life

(John3 verse 16 NIV)

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ.

(2 Corinthians 5 verse 19 NIV)
